It is easy to get to Fiji, being on the main air routes between Australia and North America, and the people are genuinely friendly and welcoming. Fiji is the most commercial of the South Pacific Islands but it is not overly developed. There are many islands to explore, as well as very traditional villages, some which see virtually no tourists. Fiji also boasts world renown Scuba diving, surfing, hiking and exploring. Many of the private Islands host exclusive 5-star retreats. Viti Levu, the main island, has the most varied attractions with Nadi on the west coast and Pacific Harbour on the south coast being the two main centres of tour activity.
Denarau Island is the lunching pad to many of Fiji's island resorts and activity options. Only 20 minutes from Nadi and with more than 8 major hotels. If golf is your game, you'll certainly enjoy the championship caliber course at the Golf and Racquet facility which also houses impressive tennis options including spectacular grass courts.
The Coral Coast begins approximately 20 kilometres south of Nadi and has some of the best eco-tourism sites in the country. Here the rainforest is vibrant and the rivers meander into the remote interior with traditional villages on its banks.
Fiji's culture is a rich mosaic of indigenous, Indian, Chinese and European traditions. The indigenous culture is very much an active and living culture, and is a part of everyday life for the Majority of the population.
The Meke, or traditional dance, is an extremely visual ceremony. Mekes are performed regularly at most resorts by the local villagers. The dances are powerful and graceful at the same time and include such movements as the spear dance, the fan dance and the sitting dance. What really makes these dances special are the accompanying singing, hand-clapping and drum beating.
Fijian firewalking is a unique ceremony. The ceremony requires performers to observe strict traditional protocol before they can walk on the hot stones.
Fiji is a mystic land filled with beauty, hospitality and peace.
